I would like to share with you a few of my favorite links:
Alter-Egos
- Life: 10 x 10 – A multi-author blog about simplifying life.
- andrewcodispoti.com – My professional website, with my acting resume and a photo gallery.
General Recreation
- Comics at Giant in the Playground – Comics by Rich Burlew (the famous Order of the Stick) and other artists. “The Order of the Stick” is my favorite comic.
- Wikipedia – “The free encyclopedia that anyone can edit!”
- The Book of Biff – Disturbing and great.
Role-Playing Games
- Fate – My favorite RPG. Fate has several interesting mechanics for connecting story to game rules. It is based on Steffan O’Sullivan’s Fudge.
- True20 – An RPG with streamlined rules (using only 1 20-side die). It is generic (setting independent).
Music
- The Mydas Ascension Website – The official website of The Mydas Ascension, an independent rock band from Southern New Hampshire. Highly recommended.
- Magnatune – A music distribution company with a modern paradigm. They distribute electronically under Creative Commons licenses. Musicians get half the gross revenue of any music sold. Buyers pick the price for an album, from $5-18.
- Jamendo – Another music distribution company in tune with the internets. All music is available for free download, and you pay what you want direct to the artist (as I understand it).
Computing
- Firefox – Web browser of choice for most people I know. Free and open-source. My current browser.
- Vimperator – A Firefox extension which is keyboard-friendly and maximizes screen real-estate. Thanks to Vimperator, I do 85% of my web browsing without a mouse.
- Opera – Another web browser I have used and recommend. Free but closed-source.
- Ubuntu – The most user-friendly variety of Linux I have yet encountered. It is easy to install, even if you want to run Windows on the same PC. It is approaching a level of ease-of-use equivalent to that of Windows or Mac. If you have ever thought of switching to Linux, give Ubuntu a try.
- ArchLinux – ArchLinux is another Linux distribution I’ve used. It is fast and light and has a good community who provide functional documentation. It is not quite as user-friendly as Ubuntu.
- TiddlyWiki – A wiki in a single HTML file which can be stored on a hard drive or any other sort of memory (USB stick, etc.).
- DreamHost – An excellent shared-server website hosting service. They have very good support (through e-mail, but they have extremely quick response) and their price is quite good. If you use the promo code TOLKIEN2007 you will get an additional 30$ off when you sign up with them, and they’ll give me a hosting discount for referring you.
Ethics/Politics/Economics/Philosophy
- Overcoming Bias – “How can we obtain beliefs closer to reality?” A blog on rationality.
- Heifer Project – My favorite charity.
- Agorism.info – “Agorism is revolutionary market anarchism.”
- Ludwig von Mises Institute – “Advancing the scholarship of liberty in the tradition of the Austrian School.” Blogging and discussion on libertarianism, market anarchism, Austrian economics.
